આપણાં દેશમાં ઘણી મહારાણીઓએ પોતાના સામ્રાજ્ય માટે પોતાનો જીવ આપ્યો છે, તેમાંનાં એક એટલે રાણી રુદ્રમા દેવી. તેમની શ્રેષ્ઠ શાસનશૈલી, શાંતિપ્રિય અભિગમના કારણે તેમણે ચાલીસ વર્ષ-સુધી રાજ્ય કર્યું હતું.
રાણી રુદ્રમા દેવી માનતાં હતાં કે યુદ્ધ એ એકમાત્ર વિકલ્પ હોય તો જ યુદ્ધનું બ્યૂગલ ફૂંકવું, નહીં તો પ્રજાના હિતમાં શાંતિથી જ ઉકેલ લાવવો. તેમના આ વલણના કારણે જ ઇતિહાસકારોએ તેમના શાસનકાળને સુવર્ણ શાસનકાળ ગણાવ્યો છે.કાક્તીય રાજ્ય માટે તેઓ અભેદ્ય કિલ્લો બનીને રહ્યાં હતાં.
પતિના મૃત્યુ બાદ તેમનું રાજ્ય પડાવી લેવા અમુક રાજા એ તેમના રાજ્ય ઉપર ચડાઇ કરી હતી પણ રાણીએ પોતાની બુદ્ધિ અને ચતુરાઈથી તે બધાંને માત આપી અને કાક્તીય રાજ્યને ઊની આંચ નહોતી આવવા દીધી.
